Alright, so here's the deal -

I started writing the poverty blog just as I said I would, but finally stopped myself after two and a half pages single-spaced - and I still had like 3 more topics to cover! So on second thought, maybe trying to condense everything into one blog post was a bit ambitious.

I first became interested in poverty last summer while I was living in Uganda. I wanted to know how in the heck my world [and it really is a different world] was so developed, while that world was so.. not. I heard a lot of ideas get thrown out about fair trade, education, health, infrastructure, economic growth, aid, good governance and the like being the key to escaping poverty – IF it was possible. But is it possible? Is development even good for the poor? What is MY role in all of this?

I'm assuming (its always dangerous when I make assumptions) that I'm not the only one that's felt lost on this subject. So here's the deal - if you've got a question related to poverty/fair trade/etc., comment on this blog and I'll try to answer it. If I don't know the answer, I'll at least tell you that much. Cool? cool.

  1. I've been trying to think of a specific question to ask for your post, but I seem to have a lot. The questions you start with are good ones: Is development good for the poor?, and what's my role in all of this?
I only know a few general facts about poverty/fair trade, and I wish I knew more. The subject is sort of hanging over the back of my mind, especially after visiting Haiti.
